Sunset Beach May 11th, 2009

Colin says:
Slung our Hammocks between 2 plam trees and uhhh….thats about it with Breakfast @ 9:00 am, Lunch @ 1:00 pm, Tea @ 3:00 pm and Dinner @ 8:00 pm everyday. The island was home to a Fijian family who owned and operated the resort which included 8 single burres (huts), a 10 person dorm and camping. Mountian treks, snorkling, shark feeding and other activities for the ambitious were offered. I on the other hand found the Fiji Gold and Fiji Bitter layed on the beach and did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

Alix worked out the portable hula hoop which she hopes to accomplish at every stop along the way.

We did take in a sunset atop one of the islands lesser peaks. A 15 minute hike straight up the black volcanic rock puts you at the top of a small butte high enough to see many of the surrounding islands and the rest of the island’s amazing landscape.

People came and went daily arriving in the morning or leaving at night. Probably the most interesting person was this 42 year old Swiss-German guy Nickolaus or Nicalaus or Nikolause…whatever — fucking swiss-germans. A sailor looking to find work as a skipper as part of a crew to sail around the south pacific for the next couple of months. Guy was like a pirate — covered in tattoos, spoke weird swiss german, had crazy eyes and smoked a lot. His plan: to island hop until the season started in about 2-3 weeks then head to a marina, look for a guy with a nice boat, offer to help him fix it up, become a crew member, sail around the south pacific. awesome!
