Queensday June 1st, 2010

Colin says:
Like 24 hours of techno music or something, Queensday is a veritable sensory overload of mass amounts of everything. The canals are packed with party boats, each blasting subsequently better techno raging then the next – literally 2 inches from itself. Meanwhile on the bridge over the canal where all the boats are, a tent and stage is jammin’ even more continual techno blasting. I think the strategy here is to either go deaf immediately or enter a techno zone where you kinda blend everything going on together into one big mush pile. Add some dope and beer and just slide right through the thing till you fall apart. I seemed to have a hard shut-off at about 11:30 at which point i just said “Fuck it” and got a cab home.

Though, through all the overt craziness, seems to prevail a typical dutch reserve about going absolutely ballistic unlike, um i don’t know, most Americans would. There were no fights or overt public drunkenness, even though most things about Amsterdam are pretty overt already…but nothing to distract from having a good time. Now imagine if the entirety of New York were to shut down the streets and let all of its citizens rage techno music and drink freely while smoking enormous spliths. What do you think would happen then?

Amsterdam is one of the only places in the world that could honor the queen in such a way.
And to Amsterdam I will go many many many more times.
