Purchased our tickets! Crazy to have things finally confirmed. Used the student travel agengy STA which was a great deal — total cost will come to $3,400.00. Unable to purchase the returning flights as the dates are still too far out for the airlines to schedule. Itinerary is as follows:
May 7th, 2009: New York > Los Angeles > Nadi, Figi
May 13th, 2009: Nadi > Auckland > Christchurch, New Zealand
June 5th, 2009: Christchurch > Sydney, Australia
July 13th, 2009: Darwin, Australia > Denspasar, Bali
October 26th, 2009: Bangkok, Thailand > Delhi, India
January 20th, 2010: Delhi > Bahrain > Cairo, Egypt
February 1st, 2010: Cairo > Doha
February 4th, 2010: Doha > Cape Town, South Africa
May 2nd, 2010: Nairobi, Kenya > London, England
May 6th 2010: London > Virgin Islands
May 14th 2010: Virgin Islands > New York
This is our main route. There will be a lot of overland travel and side trips that is not reflected on this itinerary. As much as we can plan a full year we tried to keep things loose should we want to stay in places longer or other places shorter. We will see how well we did matching our course to the weather and to the seasons of the places we will be staying. One nice thing about STA is that the change fee to change a date on any flight is only $35.00. So we have that going for us which is nice.
I will be tracking our route through google maps which will always be at the top. Since google maps is like the most amazing thing ever created besides whip cream and neon glow. I should be able to get really specific with all the places we hit.

Colin, We were just out in Wash, DC and talking with freinds who work for the Defense Intelligent Agency. They were saying that Africa is a very dangerous place and would not recommend traveling through the continent especially in the central countries. The countries are very anti american and anti christian and would be looking for young people to kidnap or outright kill. I would strongly recomment that you do not travel there and that you find another way to travel the world. Just trying to share with you as I am concerned. Love, Uncle Al
